TRAVEL BY DESIGN?
The author looks at how trends in urban neighborhood design (New Urbanism) may influence travel patterns. Existing evidence is either mixed, contrary, or difficult to interpret. The potential traffic benefits of New Urbanism reflect an interesting set of hypotheses, but they remain a weak basis for current transportation policy.
