BEHAVIOUR AND VOLNERABILITY OF CHILDREN TO TRAFFIC HAZARDS
GEDRAG EN VERKEERSONVEILIGHEID BIJ KINDEREN
The situation of the child as a pedestrian in traffic is disturbing. Among the registered victims of pedestrian accidents during 1971 in Rotterdam, 50% are 0-14 years old. In this report the authors try by means of available data to show possible regularities in the accident pattern. It is shown that children of 0-14 years old have relatively four times more pedestrian accidents than older children. In this age range there are twice as many male victims as female. School days present a higher risk for these children and most of the accidents occur from 16.00-18.00 hour. Most accidents occur with cars and the most important juridical aspects are in cautions crossing of the road and crossing between parked cars. /TRRL/ /TRRL/
