CMX STANDARD SHIP DESIGN PROJECT REPORT. VOLUME 2
This report summarizes the results of a study to develop ship designs and program plans for a program to revitalize the U.S. Flag Merchant Fleet. Commercial demand for ocean transportation was considered and requirements were determined by trade forecasts to 1982. Outputs of the trade forecasts and interviews were then tran- slated into system service requirements from which ship characteristics and fleet composition were defined. Pre- liminary design called for continuous feedback of infor- mation from production engineers as to the producibility of various design concepts. Preliminary production planning involved the conceptual design of a shipyard facility. An improved mode of procurement incorporating those findings and conditions which will support accomplishment of the Program objectives in a competitive marketing environment was developed.
