APPLICATION OF NEW CONCEPTS IN ASPHALT MIX DESIGN (WITH DISCUSSION)
The authors' research at Nottingham, UK has resulted in some significant developments aimed towards producing a new and practical method of mix design. This paper provides a case history of how the procedures have been applied to a particular source of aggregate, a Californian granite and an asphalt cement, both materials forming part of the SHRP "library" and featuring in the current research under this initiative. It has, there, been possible to design a mix using the new method and to compare the results with the mix design which is normally used for this aggregate. The mechanical properties of the designed mix have been compared with those for the specified mix.
