LARGER METHANE TANKERS

This paper summarises the principal features of the two techniques that have been developed for the construction of methane tankers and a comparison is made between self supporting tank techniques and the integrated membrane type system. The problems are analysed from the naval architects', builders' and operators' point of view. Experience accumulated with the operation of methane carriers is given in some detail and the paper concludes by noting that this experience has shown the acceptability of an increase in size of this type of ship.
