A HIGH-SPEED ROAD PROFILOMETER - PRELIMINARY DESCRIPTION
A prototype road profilometer of length 5 metres is described. When towed behind an estate-car it is capable of operation at speeds up to 80 km/h and measures longitudinal profile features from 0.2 to 100M or more in length with a resolution of better than 1mm and with an error in the curvature of the profile of not more than 0.3 km-1 in distances of 100M. Records of the measured profile are made by computer on magnetic tape and if required in the form of a graph. /Author/TRRL/
