MOTIONS AND RESISTANCE OF A SHIP IN REGULAR FOLLOWING WAVES
Continuing previous experiments on a model of a fast cargo ship in regular head waves, an experimental program has been set up at Delft University to measure vertical motions and added resistance in regular following waves. The results of these experiments are compared in the report with theoretical calculations carried out by computer, using a later version of the TRIAL program. In the present investigation only heave and pitch motions have been observed and the relative vertical motions of the afterbody measured. The added mass and damping for the ship cross sections were calculated using a Lewis conformal transformation. The resistance due to waves was found by subtracting the still-water resistance from the total resistance.
