PREFABRICATED HOUSES GIVE HIGHER STANDARDS AT LOWER COST

the Hamburg, Germany, shipyard Blohm & Voss has developed a system for the modular construction of deckhouses that can be placed, furniture and all, directly onto the main deck of any ship. Constructed of steel plate, sheet, and mineral wool, these houses, sometimes three to five storeys high, are totally constructed in a shipside shed and lifted aboard by crane. The system, called M-1000, is said to accomplish the job in a shorter time and to higher standards than with the usual methods of welding up a deckhouse.
