PRESTRESSED CONCRETE FOR PRIMARY STORAGE OF LNG OR LPG ON SHIPS OR BARGES AND AS A SECONDARY BARRIER
The satisfactory performance of prestressed concrete in cryogenic environments coupled with its inherently sound structural characteristics make this material ideally suited for a variety of applications in the field of storage and transporting liquefied natural gas. Its slower thermal response characteristics, when compared with steel, make concrete a beneficial protective material. Major LNG projects using concrete are listed, and test results for vapor dispersal and radiation hazards are reported.
