A STUDY OF AERODYNAMIC STABILITY OF LOW NOISE PANTOGRAPH
Reduction of noise generated around a pantograph is a requisite for reduction of wayside noise. The paper proposes a low noise pantograph named PEGASUS. This pantograph has an aerodynamically smooth shape without generating a large aerodynamic noise. The greatest difficulty in its development lies in the realization of aerodynamic stability. A panhead supporting mechanism has been contrived to get aerodynamic stability, and its efficiency has been confirmed by some experiments. This paper shows the performance of PEGASUS focusing on its aerodynamic stability.
