NEW APPROACH TO DESIGN OF CULVERTS. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a technical note with the aforementioned title by B. Dasika, published by this journal (Volume 121, Number 3, May/June 1995), is presented. Discusser Montes states that the culvert used in the author's experiments are rather short and that the 1:40 barrel slope seems to have been selected to ensure supercritical flow in the barrel. In addition, Montes reports that the two empirical equations used by the author are not appropriate background for rational design. The discusser suggests that it is preferable to employ models that are well grounded in rational theory. Discussion is followed by closure from the author.
