WHY ARE CRYOGENIC REPAIRS STILL GETTING THE COLD SHOULDER?
This article discusses cryogenic pipe freezing, one of many techniques available for isolating a faulty valve or section of a pipeline for maintenance or repair. It is claimed to be a very simple technique which overcomes the need for system shutdown, and is able to be carried out with a minimum of equipment and cost. Using this method the section of a pipe to be isolated is sealed off by freezing the fluid on either side of the site. This is achieved by attaching a container or jacket to the pipe which is filled with a cryogen such as liquid nitrogen.
