ANALYSIS OF DYNAMIC SLED AND COMPONENT TESTS - PART 572 ANTHROPOMORPHIC TEST DEVICES
The test results from several dynamic sled test and Part 572 component test programs, including the Ford Round-Robin Test Program described in Section 1, are reviewed and analyzed in this report. Part 572 test results showed a great amount of variability. Results from component tests with 19 Part 572 dummies were reviewed, and none of the dummies was able to pass a complete run-through of the Part 572 qualification procedure. The analyses of the Dynamic Sled Test data presented in this report indicate that: There are differences between the test results of different Part 572 dummies used in similar dynamic sled tests, i.e., the dynamic sled test responses of the Part 572 dummy are not reproducible. The dynamic sled test responses of the Part 572 dummy are, in general, repeatable. The measures of dummy repeatability and reproducibility must be combined in order to assess the total variability in results from similar dynamic sled tests with randomly chosen Part 572 dummies. Total variability in dynamic sled testing ranged from 7.7 percent of the average dummy maximum chest acceleration response to 14 percent of the average dummy HIC reponse (see Section 5.2.6). Total response variation of this magnitude is considered acceptable.
