TRANSVERSE STRENGTH OF A SHIP HULL UNDER LATERAL AND IN-PLANE LOADS

A three-dimensional method for transverse strength calculation based on the orthotropic plate theory is developed, and computer programs (FORTRAND 4 language) utilizing this method have been written and presented. The method described in this paper can also be used to design ship bottom structure, taking into account the restraining effect of side shells, and to obtain information on how much load can be transmitted to side shells and bulkheads in modern tankers.
