IMPLEMENTATION OF SPEED LIMITING MEASURES ON 80 KM/H HIGHWAYS: EFFECTS ON DRIVING BEHAVIOUR, PHYSIOLOGICAL ACTIVATION AND APPRECIATION

IMPLEMENTATIE VAN SNELHEIDSBEPERKENDE MAATREGELEN OP 80 KM/UUR WEGEN: EFFECTEN OP RIJGEDRAG, ACTIVATIE EN BELEVING

The infrastructure of four 80 km/h roads in the Dutch province of Drenthe was changed to reduce the driving speed. The concept "comfort" was taken as the starting point for the adjustments. The basic idea is that at speeds over 80 km/h the driver should experience discomfort. On the other hand, if the driver obeys the speed limit, he should not experience the feelings of discomfort. In the present experiment, the effects of the adjustments are studied with regard to driving behaviour, physiological activity and appreciation. (A)
