DURABILITY OF REPAIRED BRIDGE DECK OVERLAYS
This article describes bridge deck overlays and the techniques for applying them. In order to give a repaired structure sufficient service life, the bonded overlay (that serves as the wearing course without any isolation) requires: (1) A long-term stable bond to the repaired structure. (2) Sufficient wear resistance with respect to vehicular traffic. (3) Sufficient (salt) freeze-thaw resistance to withstand the specific environmental loads. (4) Protection of the reinforcement from chloride and carbonation initiated corrosion.
