ECONOMIC MODELS VERIFY HEAVY OIL PROFITABILITY
Investment in heavy oil has been stimulated by new technologies that have significantly reduced costs and improved recovery. Also, heavy oil demand has increased because of the expanded refinery capacity for processing low-gravity, high-sulfur crudes. The authors visited major and independent oil producers in the San Joaquin basin in California to gather data for modeling the economics for developing a hypothetical heavy oil field.
