NORTH AMERICAN INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION
The North American Intelligent Transportation (NAIT) Special Report focuses on Canada and the United States. The centerpiece of North American ITS has been the US national program, established in 1991. The report begins with a review of the program's first five years, specifically, its origins, its major objectives and its major accomplishments. Much of the real story occurs at the regional, state and local levels, where most travel and transportation benefits accrue. The report therefore studies selected projects and initiatives at those levels. The real story of ITS is complex and diverse and the market for it is full of opportunities and pitfalls. The purpose of the Special Report is to provide a careful, comprehensive overview of ITS policies, technology, programs and players.
