OPERATING COSTS FOR PARKING STRUCTURES VARY SIGNIFICANTLY
This article looks at several factors that contribute to the variability in operating expenses among different parking structures. The data presented were gathered from a survey sent to operators of parking structures throughout United States. The numbers reflect responses from 17 states with data on 59 parking structures, They differ in size from 208 spaces to 3,000, with a median size of 632 spaces. The results reflect data gathered in 1996, from 1995 fiscal year operations. Costs are compared on "per space" basis. When evaluating data of this type, the "median per space" shows a more representative number than does the average; this article uses the median per space figures throughout.
