RELIABILITY APPROACH IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING. PART 6: RELIABILITY APPROACHES IN EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING. EXPECTED DAMAGE ON A STRUCTURE CAUSED BY MEDIUM MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKES OCCURRING NEAR THE STRUCTURE
The results of the study are summarized on the damages caused by eleven earthquakes with magnitudes ranging between 6.1 and 7.4 which had epicenters on or very close to land. It is concluded that the region of severe damage to soil structures is usually limited within 20 km, while that to bridge structures is limited within 10 km of the damage center for the earthquakes investigated. Furthermore, probability and expected value of damage of the structure are estimated from these results. (a). For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD abstract no. 220168. /TRRL/
