EMBANKMENT DAMS WITH ASPHALTIC CONCRETE CORES - EXPERIENCE AND RECENT TESTS RESULTS
This report presents results of measurements made on the eberlaste dam (28 M high) of settlements reaching up to 2,3 M and of their effect on the asphaltic concrete watertight core. It was observed during the tests that the asphaltic concrete core can easily absorb fairly large shear and bending strains. Recent triaxial tests, where large vertical stresses were applied, gave data useful for the planning of future dams with an asphaltic concrete core over 100 M high. Attention is drawn to the problem of the side support of the core which increases with the height of the dam. For the covering abstract of the conference. /TRRL/
