FIGHTING SHIPBOARD FIRES

Outlines the course conducted by the Fire Protection Training Division of the Texas Engineering Extension Service, a part of the Texas A&M University System. Texas A&M University has been training fire service personnel for some 46 years. Since 1948 this service has been provided by the Fire Protection Training Division, which offers instruction in up-to-date, effective methods of fire prevention, fire suppression and emergency rescue through schools and short courses. Its annual Firemen's Training School, held each summer at Texas A&M, now draws over 4,000 municipal and industrial firemen. Other special programs include a one- week liquefied natural gas fire prevention and control course held several times each year, an eight-week school for recruit firemen and one-week course in industrial emergency rescue operations held five times annually. The Fire Protection Training Division is headed by Henry D. Smith, an internationally known expert in industrial and municipal firefighting training.
