AUTOMATED CARGO CONTROL SYSTEM ON BOARD 550 000 TDN TANKERS

To improve the work conditions of the personnel and safety of operations, it became necessary to automate controls and monitoring carried out during the commercial operations. To this extent a mini- computer was called upon to make calculations, control and monitoring of the various operations, based on data received. This computer also allows simulations to be carried out for the purpose of automating cargo handling. The purpose of this paper is to describe the equipment used; to point out the modifications brought to the standard system; to display the different possibilities of operating the plant and to show the improvements brought during cargo handling, mainly from the safety point of view laying stress on the prevention of pollution.
