A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE INTEGRATION OF A PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WITH A GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR THE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN NEW ENGLAND
The objectives of this project were to: 1) demonstrate the use of a prototype pavement management system (PMS) in a particular town with typical maintenance and repair (M & R) techniques, costs, and service lives; and 2) integrate the PMS with a Geographic Information System (GIS) for the selected town. This study established the relationship and applications of the pavement management data when integrated with a GIS in Rhode Island. The study approach used the selected PMS (Micro PAVER) to analyze the performance prediction, network programming, M & R alternatives for a typical town in New England, the town of South Kingston, R.I. The pavement condition data from the PMS was integrated with a digitized road network, using a typical GIS, i.e., pc ARC/INFO. At the completion of this project, a prototype integrated system was developed. A workshop was offered on August 16, 1991.
