HOW TO GET 200 MILES TO THE GALLON

The moped, a combination bicycle and motorized vehicle, seems to be the answer to the search for the perfect means of transportation in terms of fuel economy and air pollution. Developed in France and used widely there and in other foreign countries, the moped is now appearing in many states in this country and becoming legally recognized. A moped rider has the choice of pedaling or motoring, thanks to the motor above the front wheel that provides 1 to 2 horespower. The gas tanks generally hold 1/3 to 9/10 of a gallon of gas, and yield about 140 to 170 miles per gallon. They are not as complicated as motorcycles, yet involve less exertion than is involved in bicycle operation. Whole families have found mopeds to be useful for their many needs. If more states pass moped legislation, this hybrid vehicle may be the optimum means of transportation in the future.
