A NEW PAGE IN TRAFFIC REPORTING: THE GENESIS EVALUATION
Genesis is an Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) that uses Personal Communication Devices (PCDs) to distribute travel information to Minneapolis/St. Paul area travelers. The Genesis operational test was conducted from July 1995 to January 1996 and evaluated two PCDs: an alphanumeric pager and a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) with alphanumeric pager card. The overall system was developed through a partnership between the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) and Loral Federal Systems -- Oswego. The evaluation approach consisted of the implementation of five tests: (1) system effectiveness, (2) user perception, (3) modeling, (4) human factors and (5) institutional issues. An overview of the Genesis system, evaluation approach and results for each of the evaluation tests is presented here.
