EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ON PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE IN DISTRESS

Pavement in service are comprehensively affected by vehicle loads and environmental factors and the deterioration rates of pavements in different regions are different although their pavement structural combination and traffic are the same. So far, the studies on environmental effects on pavement performance have made less progress because of the complexities of environmental effects. On the basis of previously developed pavement performance equations, this paper quantitatively analyses the effects of environmental factors, and develops the relationships among temperature, moisture and pavement performance equations in different regions. In the case of five provinces and cities noted in this paper, the pavement life differences caused by enviromental factors reaches 25% and the phenomena of early pavement distress are more significant in wet regions.
