THOUGHTS ON AUTOMATION OF CARGO AND HULL ACCESS MECHANISMS
Automation and sophistication have categorized the development of cargo access equipment on all types of Dry Cargo Ships, Roll-On/Roll-Off and Bulk Carriers. The trend in new tonnage is towards larger vessels capable of carrying a wide range of cargo. Shipowners have come to realize that despite the initial higher cost of automation the time saved when Hatch Covers and Loading doors are continually operated on short sea crossings or in bad weather more than justifies the expense involved.
