SELF-UNLOADING DRY BULK CARGO VESSELS FOR OCEAN TRADE ROUTES
The paper deals with the subject of unloading dry bulk cargo from both small and large ocean bulk carriers. The forecast of enormous dry bulk cargo shipments in the future and growing port congestion require that the shipping industry look at alternative methods for unloading vessels which carry dry bulk commodities. The self-unloading vessel is in operation on both the Great Lakes of North America and the ocean and has proven itself to be technically and economically feasible on many routes. The paper concentrates on the reasons why the self-unloading vessel may be a solution to the growing congestion problem for many of the major trade routes and distribution routes of the world.
