STANDARD SHIPBOARD MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATED VESSELS
Incorporating both preventive maintenance and spare parts management, the system will also be developed to meet United States Coast Guard requirements for automated engineering plant maintenance programs. Major design considerations are low cost to implement, simplicity, minimum paperwork, and the flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of vessels and operators' needs. Prototype systems will be developed and tested for diesel-driven, steam-turbine-driven, and gas-turbine-driven vessels. After one-year shipboard trial periods, refined systems will be made available to serve as standards for the industry. The diesel prototype system, described in this paper, was developed by Pyramid Marine Inc., The Stanwick Corp. and TIMSCO Inc. This system is now in operation for a one-year trial period aboard the periodically-unattended engineroom bulk carrier MV SUGAR ISLANDER. Development of the steam-turbine prototype is expected to commence in mid-1976.
