MARINE TRAFFIC SIMULATOR
The author considered that marine traffic simulation is one of the best methods to represent marine traffic flow, and has developed a marine traffic simulator (simulation program) for this purpose. In this paper, a marine traffic system consists of traffic field, transactions (vessels) and information on traffic and maneuvering. Among three system parameters, information is the most important parameter to develop a marine traffic simulator because it is difficult to show the characteristics of this parameter quantitatively. The author has obtained information from masters and succeeded in making a model of marine traffic flow. In the simulator, a vessel will be maneuvered using solutions of kinetic equations microscopically and masters' decision criteria macroscopically. Japanese masters' evaluated volume capacity has been obtained from the results of simulation, and this simulator and the results of simulation can be applied mainly to the design of a channel complex and the marine traffic control system.
