ECONOMIC ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE DEMONSTRATES SYNERGISTIC BENEFITS FROM INTEGRATED SHIP SYSTEM
Synergistic benefits accrue when the monitoring and control of selected functional subsystems, such as navigation, cargo, machinery, and administrations are integrated aboard a ship. This is done simultaneously using a common central processing system. A new technique is shown which selects the optimum Integrated Ship System and pinpoints integration benefits. Results of the ISS economic analysis for various subsystems, the final selected integrated configuration, and the evaluation of the contributing factors are summarized. Included in the ISS economic analysis are the results of incorporating the same ISS configuration on two different vessels operating in two widely different trades. One is a relatively small tanker transporting refined products on a coastal operation. The other is a Very Large Crude Carrier with long sea-passage operation. Thus a wide band of ship operations is represented in the analysis.
