Supplemental Notes:
- Presented during corrosion/75, April 14-18, 1975, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 711A Increased cost of Zn dust for coatings has enhanced interest in applications involving reduced loadings or the use of extenders. Recent tests show Zn at 65 to 85% makes coatings adequate in moderate exposures and elsewhere also when topcoated. Severe exposures or poor surface preparation require heavier loadings. Inorganic Zn primers with less than 65% Zn tend to blister topcoats less in wet exposures but when less than 2 mils is applied, higher loadings are necessary. When less than 85% Zn is used, performance depends on vehicle. Hydrolyzed ethyl silicates tend to tolerate reduced loadings better than others. High loading permits better toleration of application and field variables. Diiron phosphide, an extender for Zn, is electrically conductive. Tests show no difference in surface rust when Zn dust-diiron phosphate ratios were increased from 100:0 to 5-:50. Diiron phosphate reduced porosity of welds on weld-thru prim
