PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE FELLED MURRAH BUILDING, REPORT SAYS
According to a report issued November 14, 1996 by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the loss of lives and damage would have been reduced substantially if seismic protection design features had been used in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The report coincides with the formal announcement of an international design competition for an Oklahoma City Memorial at the site. The report recommends tougher blast-protection standards for federal buildings, including use of special moment frames. The Murrah building had an ordinary moment frame.
