NEW TEMPERATURE CORRECTION PROCEDURE FOR FWD DEFLECTIONS OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS
The overlay design analysis in the 1986 AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures introduces nondestructive deflection testing as the key tool in evaluating the in situ structural capacity of existing pavements. Two general approaches for carrying out this evaluation are Pavement Layer Moduli Prediction Technique and Direct Structural Capacity Prediction Technique. In either of the approaches, deflection measurements or backcalculated layer properties must be corrected to a particular type of loading system and a standard set of environmental conditions. In this paper, field data was utilized to check the accuracy of the AASHTO temperature-deflection correction procedure, and then new temperature-deflection correction factors are presented for pavements with different asphalt layer thicknesses.
