SIDE IMPACT DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCES
This paper relates some of the experiences found during the development of a recent small car. An aim of the program was to meet the draft ECE side impact requirements with certain statistical confidence. The following areas of interest are covered in the paper: (1) vehicle structural attributes - B pillar intrusion profile and velocity; (2) trim and padding - deployable trim system; (3) CAE tools - their role within the development programme; (4) Eurosid-1 dummy - response variability and calibration ranges, interaction with seat structure. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 883972.
