EVALUATION OF IN SITU SOIL MODULI BASED ON FALLING WEIGHT DEFLECTOMETER (FWD) LOADINGS
In a flexible pavement design method the subgrade modulus is one of the basic inputs. Within a work dealing with "Long Term Pavement Performance" and development of a "Performance Based Asphalt Strain Criterion" respectively, deflection measurements have been done in a tremendous scale in different seasons and in different parts of Sweden. These measurements have been evaluated in a special study with the aim to establish a data base for subgrade soil moduli. In order to make the evaluation fast and simple a theoretically based algorithm has been developed which calculates the subgrade modulus directly from the deflection 900 mm from the centerline of the load. The algorithm is based on the assumption of a stiff layer at a depth of three (3) metres. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 883133.
