PARAMETRIC STUDY - FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS
A parametric study was carried out on thinly surfaced flexible pavements using finite element analysis. The main aim of this was to assess the importance of incorporating the non-linear stress-strain behaviour of the granular material into the structural design and analysis of pavements. Details of the structures analysed, the materials used and material properties adopted are included together with comparative studies carried out at two stages of construction. As a result of the study it is suggested that a more detailed representation of granular material in structurally significant unbound pavement layers would lead to more efficient (and thus more economical) pavement structures.
