FLOATING TANK FOR UNDERSEA OIL

Called LMS (Loading Mooring Storage Vessel), this dual-tank concept is designed by Mobil. It is able to function as an open sea crude oil accumulator, as well as a loading vessel. A combination of production, storage and loading facilities, it is intended to store crude oil extracted from the seabed, and to transfer oil aboard tankers. It also permits crude oil production to continue when the tankers are not able to load due to heavy seas. Each tank built in the LMS Vessel has special synthetic rubber diaphragms and can serve in two ways, for water ballast and crude oil. Because of its capacity equivalent to a 250,000-dwt tanker, this steel structured floating unit will take crude oil operations a step further in the underseas oil market, the companies claim.
