SHORT-TERM SUSTAINED LOADING OF FRP TENDON-ANCHOR SYSTEMS
This paper presents a preliminary evaluation of some FRP tendon-anchor systems on the market for use in prestressed concrete structures; the tests were conducted in the USA. The ten tendon-anchor systems used were obtained from the USA, Japan, the UK, the Netherlands, and Italy. Each system used different fibre and resin types, tendon manufacturing processes, and anchoring systems. Each system was stressed and subjected to sustained load for three days, and at least two tests were conducted on it at a load equivalent to 65% of the specified ultimate tendon strength. The installation and tensioning of these FRP tendons was fairly similar to current practice based on steel tendons. Of 32 specimens tested, 22 could be stressed to the target load, but three systems could not reach that load and another three systems did not sustain that load for a long time. For these six cases, the anchoring device needs improvement, and the amount of initial prestressing may need to be reconsidered. Local tendon damage due to anchoring varied according to whether potted anchors or wedge or spike systems were used.
