LABORATORY DETERMINATION OF HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY FOR AN INITIALLY UNSATURATED SAND-BENTONITE BARRIER MATERIAL

In this study, the triaxial test system is used to conduct the hydraulic conductivity test for a sand-bentonite mixture, a solution containing lead as a contaminant was used as the permeant. The coefficient of permeability k, calculated from results obtained from the various tests show influences of initial test material conditions, "initial saturation" procedure, type of contaminant used as the permeant, "hydraulic" gradient, and the number of pore volumes used to test samples was determined through retention analyses of sections of samples. The results are discussed in relation to the resultant performance of the mixture vis-a-vis permeant-soil interaction. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 881647.
