PORE PRESSURE DISSIPATION FEATURES OF AN UNSATURATED COMPACTED SOIL
A cohesive soil was statically compacted at a range of moulding water contents near the optimum to form specimens having desired dry densities for different purposes of pore pressure dissipation test. The induced pore pressure under hydrostatic confining pressure, its rate of dissipation, the volume change of specimen under undrained condition, the volume proportion of pore water to air drained from the specimen were measured and the change of the degree of saturation after consolidation was determined. The change of pore air-water configurations in the soil with the increase of degree of saturation is discussed and the effect of pore air-water configuration on the pore pressure induction and dissipation features is presented.
