FIELD MANAGEMENT OF HOT MIX ASPHALT (WITH DISCUSSION)
National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) has a multi-staged project to develop a step-by-step process for field managmenet of Hot Mix Asphalt consturction. The information presented herein is a compilation of NAPA activities as well as a FHWA Technical Working Group activity (Phase 1). Phase I of the project is to: identify factors causing differences between mix design and production, develop guidelines to correct and reconcile those differences, describe a volumetric QC/QA program, and describe a guide acceptance plan. Phase 2 of the project is planned to conduct a field verification trial to make sure what is put together works. The final step will be to develop training documents.
