TELEWORKING: A FLEXIBLE WORKING OPPORTUNITY: REPORT ON FINDINGS AND SUMMARY
This report describes the planning, implementation, and findings of the RTA Teleworking Pilot Project 1993/94. The report also comments on issues raised during the project, including the management and administration of the project. The report presents: 1) findings related to the key objectives of the project which were to investigate the impact of teleworking on travel behaviour, productivity and worker satisfaction; 2) findings on secondary objectives which focus on the impact of pollution, energy consumption, and traffic congestion, benefits for teleworkers, including changes to their quality of life, benefits for supervisors, effectiveness of managing teleworkers using management by objectives techniques, effect on delivery of customer service, employment and work enhancement opportunities, cost savings in establishing office furniture and equipment; 3) comments and recommendations on issues raised during the planning stage, namely: management support, supervision, industrial legislation, occupational health and safety legislation, existing RTA policies, guidelines and forms, confidentiality and privacy of project participants; and 4) assessment of the management and administration of the project.
