ICE RESISTANCE OF THREE BOW FORMS FOR THE NSR CARGO SHIP
A series of model tests were carried out in an ice tank. The tests were performed as part of an R & D project of a cargo ship which would sail the Northern Sea Route. The experiment includes resistance tests in level ice, pre-sawn ice, ridges and broken ice field. Three bow forms, a conventional wedge-shaped bow, convex bow and concave bow, were tested. This paper describes details of the test method and the results. The results are discussed, especially the effects of bow form on the resistance of the ship in ice.
