RUDDER PROPELLERS BENEFIT FROM REDUCED TIP VORTICES
Two innovative solutions for increasing propeller efficiency by reducing the vortex formation have been developed. Both alternatives, the TVV (Tip-Vortex-Vane) propeller and HVV (Hub- Vortex-Vane) propeller, result in an appreciable improvement in propeller efficiency. However, with highly loaded propellers, which are characterised by strong vortices, a combination of a TVV propeller and a HVV propeller is a suitable means of achieving a considerable reduction of the losses caused by the two peripheral vortices.
