BUILDING RO-RO PASSENGER SHIPS TO MEET CHANGING STABILITY REQUIREMENTS
This article discusses the damage stability aspects of two new ferries. These designs were completed whilst the work of the Nordic Committee and the IMO Panel of Experts was in progress. They reflect the consequences of requirements as proposed at the time of contract signing. The technical and commercial properties of both vessels are compared with a basic STAB 90 design and a new design complying with the latest requirements. It is found that effects of the latest requirements are moderate provided the vessel is carefully designed.
