SOME ASPECTS OF ADDED RESISTANCE IN WAVES

This paper discusses added resistance of a ship due to waves, which is a wave-making resistance. None of the topics considered is treated extensively. The emphasis is on the author's recent research efforts concerned with reducing added resistance and results of experiments of added resistance with a series of ship models. In this experiment a method to obtain added resistance by measuring wave energy dissipation, the direct measurement of the added resistance as a wave-making resistance, was applied. The results were compared with the added resistance as a force acting on the ship hull.
