CURRENT AND FUTURE POSSIBILITIES IN THE DESIGN OF FAST FERRIES
This paper discusses aspects affecting the design of fast ferries whether monohull, catamaran, SWATH, or Trimaran, propelled by diesel or gas turbine driven propellers or jets. The topics covered emanate from the authors' work on the design and construction of fast passenger ferries. Two designs are highlighted: the TriCat, a 45 metre, 45 knot 300 seat, gas turbine propelled catamaran for the Hong Kong - Macau service and the TransCat which is a 43 metre, 500 seat, 20 knot, diesel powered catamaran designed for use within Lisbon Harbour in water depths of 2 metres.
