EFFICIENT USE OF A BUSY ROADWAY
An automatic traffic surveillance and control system is currently operational on the northern 36 miles of the New Jersey Turnpike. The completion of the system represents the final phase of a total traffic management philosophy begun more than 10 years ago with the preparation of the preliminary designs of a $700-million expansion of the northern portion of the turnpike from 6 lanes to 12. Thus far, the system has fulfilled its expectations in ensuring the most efficient use of the roadway it controls. /Author/
